IAHSS Updates CHPA Application and Renewal Application
Wednesday, August 9, 2023
The IAHSS Commission on Certification is updating the Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA) Application and the CHPA Renewal Application. The updated application will be effective Sept. 1, 2023. Update Highlights:
- Professional Development (Continuing Education) will now be based on the number of CE hours and translate directly to that number of credits. It was previously based on ranges of hours.
- The in-person requirement for professional development has been removed. This change accommodates the high-quality online education available, including the Virtual IAHSS Annual Conference and Exhibition. It also creates a more equitable way for online and in-person credits to be earned and valued.
- The credits awarded for Education on the initial CHPA Application were increased. An associate degree now earns 5 credits (2 previously); a bachelor’s degree now earns 10 credits (3 previously); a graduate degree now earns 15 points (4 previously).
- Education has been removed as a category for credit on the CHPA Renewal Application. However, successfully completed college level coursework that aligns with the CHPA Exam Content Outline can earn credit under Continuing Education.
- Each (1) full year of Experience now earns 2 credits.
“The IAHSS Commission on Certification made these updates to reflect the value of online education, and weigh that ongoing professional development and education appropriately,” explains William E. Huey, Jr., CPP, CHPA, Chair of the CHPA Commission on Certification. “The CHPA program is evolving with the changes in professional development, education, best practices, and with feedback from our fellow CHPA certificate holders. CHPA renewal applicants should closely review the new requirements to ensure they have enough continuing education hours to recertify.
