Crime Survey Announcement

Wednesday, January 19, 2022   (0 Comments)

The IAHSS Foundation has released the 2021 Healthcare Crime Survey, an annual report that tracks crime and workplace violence trends at hospitals throughout the United States.

This year’s Crime Survey, which includes incidents that occurred during the 2020 calendar year, found increases in the rates of violent crime, simple assault, vandalism and disorderly conduct and decreases in the rates of burglary, theft and motor vehicle theft.

Both aggravated assaults and simple assaults against staff by patients and visitors (Workplace Violence Type 2) continued to be a significant concern in US hospitals. These incidents accounted for more than four out of every five assaults in hospitals in 2020.

In addition, the survey showed significant use of threat management teams and visitor management programs and found that changes to access control and visitor management are the most likely pandemic countermeasures to remain in place.
