Call for Public Comment on New IAHSS Incident Categorization Framework

Tuesday, July 27, 2021
New IAHSS Incident Categorization Framework Open for Public Comment

This framework developed by the IAHSS Council on Guidelines contains recommendations for how security incident and event categories should be organized within the healthcare delivery system. It is the purpose of this framework to aid the healthcare industry to create a more standardized and consistent approach to the collection and categorization of security incident data within healthcare that will ease comparability from facility to facility.

IAHSS has developed a companion glossary of terms to define and aid the understanding of the phrases and abbreviations commonly used by the healthcare security industry to include those denoted in this framework.

Groupings are defined by:
  • Violence & Aggression
  • Other Crimes
  • Security Assist
  • Emergency
  • Safety – Facility Management

Workplace Violence Typology:
  • Workplace Violence Type 1: Perpetrator has no association with the workplace or employees
  • Workplace Violence Type 2: Perpetrator is a customer or patient of the workplace or employees
  • Workplace Violence Type 3: Perpetrator is a current or former employee of the workplace
  • Workplace Violence Type 4: Perpetrator has a personal relationship with employees, none with the workplace

We are asking IAHSS members for their input on any suggested alternative language. Please submit your feedback no later than Thursday, August 26, 2021.
