Lieutenant General (retired)
Mark Hertling
"Leadership is Hard! Or is it?"
There are unique challenges for those who serve in the healthcare industry, no matter what the role. Retired General Mark Hertling will discuss some of those challenges and how those who live by the tenets of true professionalism are best positioned to serve in healthcare. Mark will also discuss the application of the military leadership model of Be-Know-Do, and how this model provides guiding principles for those wanting to be the best leader they can be in a continuously changing environment.
Lieutenant General (retired) Mark Hertling served for almost four decades in the US Army as a tanker and cavalryman. At the time of his retirement, he was Commanding General of US Army Europe (USAREUR), where he led over 60,000 soldiers, cared for over 100,000 family members, and partnered with the armies of 50 countries in the European theater and the Levant. Leaving his beloved US Army in January 2013, Mark served as a Senior Vice President at the innovative Florida Hospital in Orlando from 2013- 2017. He still teaches leadership development at the organization, as well as at other healthcare and educational institutions. Mark speaks and acts passionately on the subjects of leadership, national security, and health trends. His book, Growing Physician Leaders, was published in May 2016.

Jack Enter
"Walking in Narrow Road of Leadership"
One of the more pressing issues facing law enforcement agencies may be the failure of its supervisors and managers to consistently practice recognized leadership principles they they learn in management training programs. Most supervisors and managers seem to take the "path of least resistance" when dealing with problem employees. This "wide road of mediocrity" is believed to be the primary path of most managers and these leadership failures have become a significant form of stress and frustration for the law enforcement culture. This program examines why these problems occur, and the practical methods that managers and supervisors can use to become effective leaders and walk the narrow road of leadership excellence- both at work and at home.
Jack Enter has been associated with the field of criminal justice since 1972 when he began his career as a law enforcement officer. He has worked as a street police officer, detective, vice/narcotics investigator, and as the administrator of a law enforcement agency in the suburbs of Atlanta. Jack obtained his Ph.D in 1984 and has served as a professor and administrator in the university setting. He was also one of the research associates assigned to the planning of the security component of the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta. He has lectured throughout the United States and abroad. He recently published his first book: Challenging the Law Enforcement Organization: Proactive Leadership Strategies.
