IAHSS Mourns the Passing of IAHSS President Constance “Connie” Packard

It is with great sadness that the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety Board of Directors announce that Constance “Connie” Packard, CHPA, passed away on Aug. 31, 2023.  Obituary and Service Details

“On behalf of the IAHSS Board of Directors, committees, councils, chapters, staff and membership, we extend our deepest sympathies to Connie’s family,” said IAHSS President Elect Eric Clay, CHPA, CPP. “Connie spent 26-years as an IAHSS member, and throughout her time with IAHSS, she served as President of IAHSS, President of the IAHSS Foundation, and as the IAHSS Vice President/Treasurer. She leaves a legacy of service and support.  Especially her focus and impact on advancing women in the security industry.”

IAHSS Immediate Past President Brine Hamilton shares, “Connie was truly a special person and I had the good fortune of her being one of the first people I had encountered in the association. She welcomed me, mentored me and was a genuinely caring person.”

IAHSS Foundation President Bonnie Michelman shares, “Connie was beyond special.  Her commitment to people in general, to our industry, to our association, to the groups she heavily supported and led was immeasurable as was her generosity.”

IAHSS Membership

In 1994, Boston University Medical Campus Sgt. Connie Packard and her group merged with hospital security and in 1995 she was challenged to take on the hospital security responsibilities. Shortly after, Connie became an IAHSS member, joining in 1997. Connie was also a long-term member, leader, mentor and influencer of the Boston IAHSS chapter.

IAHSS Foundation Service

Connie served on the IAHSS Foundation Board in 2015.  Then the following year, she began her three-year term as IAHSS Foundation President.  Connie continued to serve the Foundation as Treasurer for two years, 2020 and 2021. Connie’s commitment the healthcare security and safety industry extended beyond her time on the Foundation Board.

IAHSS Board Service

While serving as Foundation Treasurer, Connie also served 2 years as the Treasurers of the IAHSS Board of Directors.  In 2022 Connie became the IAHSS President Elect, followed by her role as IAHSS President in 2023, until her passing on August 31.

Connie is fondly remembered not only for her impressive list of accomplishments but for her unwavering dedication to IAHSS, the IAHSS Foundation and the healthcare security and safety industry. Connie’s legacy of service and leadership will continue to inspire generations to come.
