Monday, August 7, 2023
The International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety (IAHSS) announces the release of a new industry guideline 04.11 Security Operations Centers in Healthcare to unify and coordinate an organization’s security tools, practices, and response to security incidents. Kat Kemper, CHPA, Council on Guidelines Chair, is excited about this new guideline “as healthcare facilities and systems are looking to integrate and centralize security technologies (such as cameras, access control, duress/ panic buttons, patient protection systems), to improve communications, provide situational awareness, threat detection and response to security incidents. Additionally, an SOC can improve confidence in the security program by simplifying and strengthening the organizations security posture.”
The guideline identifies topics such as benefits, performance, staffing considerations, communication, and standard operating procedures. Mrs. Kemper further states, “if your facility has already, or is planning on utilizing a SOC, GSOC, or Fusion Center, I encourage you to review the new guideline and the references as we have consolidated the best-of-the-best information together in one spot.”
The IAHSS Council on Guidelines is comprised of volunteer IAHSS members who are seasoned healthcare security professionals and leaders. Each year the Council on Guidelines develops new industry guidelines and reviews existing guidelines on a three-year cycle. All IAHSS guidelines are available electronically to IAHSS members via the IAHSS website. Hardcopies of the 13th Edition Industry Guidelines booklet are available for sale in the IAHSS online store.
