IAHSS Announces Newly Elected 2017 Board Directors

Glendale Heights, IL – The International Association of Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS), the only organization solely dedicated to professionals involved in managing and directing security and safety programs in healthcare facilities, has announced the selection of its newly elected Board Directors for 2017. Election ballots were sent to IAHSS voting members electronically during the month of October.

President-Elect

Kevin Tuohey, CHPA

Kevin Tuohey is the Executive Director for Research Compliance at Boston University & Boston Medical Center and has 36 years of experience in healthcare and higher education emergency management, facilities, real estate, safety and security. Kevin started his career as a Security Officer and moved up through the organization, overseeing a broad range of departments. Tuohey has also been involved in the development, planning, threat and risk assessment, design, construction and operations of facilities with security requirements ranging from those with open access to those with significant protective design. Tuohey has been a member of IAHSS for over 25 years and has held various volunteer leadership roles, including serving as a member of the Design Guidelines Task Force and chairing the Council on Guidelines. Tuohey also served as one of two IAHSS representatives on the Health Guidelines Revision Committee of the 2014 and 2018 FGI Guidelines.

“I am very happy with the outcome and enthusiastically looking forward to working with the Board in continuing to move our association and industry forward,” Tuohey said. “This is a terrific organization, and while I have belonged to other associations, this is the only one in which I have maintained membership throughout my career. Thank you to the membership for your confidence in me—I will work hard to maintain that confidence.”

Patrick Lewis, CHPA

Lewis is the Manager of Safety, Security and Telecommunications at Chesapeake Regional Healthcare at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center located in Chesapeake, Virginia. Lewis brings over 38 years of experience in Security, Military, Law Enforcement, Healthcare and Emergency Management.  Lewis first became involved with IAHSS in 2010. He later served as Virginia Chapter Chair from 2011 – 2014 and currently serves as a Member-at-Large. Lewis implemented mandatory IAHSS Certifications for his officers, helping Chesapeake Regional Medical Center earn the “Program of Distinction” designation in 2015. 

“I am honored to have been selected by my peers to serve as on the IAHSS Board of Directors as Vice President/Secretary,” Lewis said. “I am looking forward to collaborating with fellow IAHSS Board Members and the executive team and all members of IAHSS in this capacity.” Lewis said he looks forward to growing the organization and meeting the goals of IAHSS and its members worldwide.

Member-At-Large

Roy Williams III, CHPA

Williams currently serves as the “Kentuckiana” Regional Director, where he is responsible for the complete operations of the healthcare Security and Emergency Management programs of Baptist Health, the largest not-for-profit hospital system in Kentucky.  Prior to working in healthcare security and emergency management, Williams served for 11 years as a police offer.  He then transitioned to Hardin Memorial Health, where his department was awarded the prestigious “Program of Distinction” designation in 2012. Prior to the election Williams held various volunteer leadership roles in IAHSS including serving as IAHSS Kentucky Chapter Chair, IAHSS Resident for Region 2, and as a member of the Council on Membership. 

Williams said he is excited to serve IAHSS “at the next level.” He hopes to build on the successes of prior IAHSS leadership while modeling servant leadership in this new role.
