Leveraging the expertise of top subject matter experts in the field, IAHSS has created a new, comprehensive, and first-of-its-kind certificate program focused on creating an effective workplace violence prevention program – with healthcare security and safety leaders at the center of all multidisciplinary efforts. This seminar was developed for healthcare security leaders. It will give you the knowledge, tools and support to develop, manage, maintain and evaluate your workplace violence prevention program. All Attendees will receive the IAHSS Workplace Violence Prevention e-Bundle. Attendees are encouraged to take notes during the class, the onscreen presentation will NOT be distributed to attendees. Implementation of a Live Active Shooter Training Exercise in a Hospital Environment		5/1/2023	5/1/2023	4:15 PM	5:15 PM	5/1/2023 4:15 PM - 5:15 PM Presenter: Robin Rice MBA-HCM We successfully Planned, Prepared, and Executed one of the most effective methods of training hospital staff to prepare for an active shooter event. As part of our training program we trained over 2,000 staff and facilitated training opportunities for local law enforcement and fire rescue partners. Additionally, our hospital provided active shooter training for our local communities (i.e., schools, etc.). The attached video received national attention with over 63M views and grossed over $7.5M.

Roberts, CHPA, CHEC Today’s healthcare security is dealing with ever-changing climates of violence, emerging infectious disease, environmental emergencies, and cyberattacks. Having a security operations center (SOC) is a good way to help mitigate these issues. The aim of consolidating security operations is to provide continuous prevention, protection, detection, and response capabilities against threats, remotely exploitable vulnerabilities, and real-time incidents.

Mark Reed, Alan Butler and Scott MacMillan will share their insights and learnings from their efforts to make this transition. This session will be moderated by Dave Brown, member of the IAHSS Guidelines Council, who himself can provide context and background on the process the Council employed in developing the new incident category framework and glossary of terms. Breakout Session: How to Find and Apply for Federal Grants to Finance Security Projects and Upgrades		5/2/2023	5/2/2023	12:30 PM	1:30 PM	5/2/2023 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM Presenter: Elli Voorhees, PhD Providing a safe and secure environment for patients, staff and visitors involves a range of security measures including video surveillance cameras, access control systems, duress alarms and emergency communications systems. Just like any building with large amounts of people, hospitals are vulnerable environments to threats like theft and violence. However, replacing old infrastructure and updating legacy security systems can be cost prohibitive given that one of the biggest challenges facing most security departments for hospitals and healthcare facilities is funding. This session covers applicable federal grant programs for security improvement projects and upgrades for hospital and healthcare facilities. Speakers will also discuss the multifaceted role security solutions play in enhancing workplace safety and patient care.

The panel will include discussions on how to leveraging technology and processes to address universal safety challenges, improve patient outcomes, as well as improved employee retention and recruiting.

Attendees will then hear approaches taken by a large-multi system hospital in meeting the Security Management System requirements. Time will be allotted for questions during the session.

Breakout Session 2: The Shield Program, the NYPD’s Success Story of Public/Private Partnership		5/2/2023	5/2/2023	4:15 PM	5:15 PM	5/2/2023 4:15 PM - 5:15 PM Presenter: Joseph Sweeney and Greg Sanfilippo NYPD Shield manages the Department's public-private security partnership, providing information to the private sector and addressing concerns from the private sector. Operating within the NYPD Counterterrorism Bureau, NYPD SHIELD represents the strength and success that can be achieved through unity and cooperation between the public and private sectors. Healthcare in NYC has benefitted greatly from intelligence sharing and training provided by the Shield Training Program. By establishing and fostering these relationships before a crisis, the NYPD and the Healthcare sector work to prevent acts of terror and violence while strengthening our security mindset and posture. The support from both the NYPD and the private sector since its inception in 2005, has allowed the SHIELD program to develop into the preeminent public/private partnership program it is today.
Breakout Session 3: A Correlation Study: Does Hospital WPV Incident Trends Similarly to Community Crime		5/2/2023	5/2/2023	4:15 PM	5:15 PM	5/2/2023 4:15 PM - 5:15 PM Presenter: Katarina (Kat) Kemper-Kelly This study looked at two hypotheses: 1) Does hospital WPV incident data from urban and suburban hospital across the US and compares it to community crime trends, and 2) If there is a trend, does the WPV prevention program mitigate injuries versus incidents.

Attendees will learn what healthcare security leaders/managers need to do to promote fair and impartial healthcare security.
