Creating Healthcare Environments That are Incompatible with Conflict and Violence
Healthcare violence represents the pinnacle of the workplace violence problem in America. Hospital security departments must take the lead in addressing this problem with new, innovative, and effective approaches. Such approaches should include a focus on non-escalation (conflict prevention), front-line staff training (including personal protection), and an emphasis on developing a social contract for how patients, family members, and staff are treated. The Vistelar team will present how they have accomplished these goals in healthcare systems throughout the world and will demonstrate physical tactics that are designed to protect everyone, including patients, providers, and security staff.
