1.What involvement have you had with IAHSS (past and present)?
•Founding Member of the BC Chapter of the IAHSS
•1995-1996 Chapter Chairman of the BC Chapter of the IAHSS

2.What habit / training / philosophy most helped you progress in your career?
•Developing and implementing “new” services and standards to meet the needs of all employees, volunteers, patients and visitors to facilities, and external partners.
•On-going monitoring of these activities. Reviewing, revising and developing them as needed.
•Ensure best practices are reviewed and implemented as necessary, Monitor their value.
•Share results with colleagues.
•Pursue a goal for future development of all programs for Provincial and National Standards.
•Seek membership on appropriate committees external to Health Care for the purpose of developing partnerships and raising awareness of Health Care Professional Security programs.
•Keep abreast of current training programs, (at both personal and security staff participation levels) Local, Provincial, Federal and International.
•Attend and participate in major conventions.
•Investigate cost effective measures for providing in-house training programs, i.e. train the trainer etc etc)
•Strive for the development and implementation of Provincial Standards.
•Never feel threatened by hiring those more qualified than you in specific areas.
•Always have a file containing assorted up-to-date budgetary submissions ready to go following for example,unexpected availability of funds, -  major disasters debriefs, e.g.. communications failed due to ……..……etc etc   Seize the day !!
•Strive for personal professional growth
•Be an example to others.

3.What, if anything, hindered your progress?
•Reporting to mid-management positions.
•Not having a “champion to further the cause” at executive level.
•Budgetary restrictions.

4.Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give yourself at the start of your career?
•Network/meet with counterparts in other Regions as a Best Practice Review of their programs Discuss their successes and failures (This was not available to me when I started my career.)

5.What professional achievements are you most proud of?
•Being the leader of the first in-house H.C. Fire/Security Services department. 
•Developing/implementing numerous policies and standards.
•The development of friendships and trust bonds that have extended throughout my career and into retirement.

6.What are your goals for the future?
•To enjoy my retirement with my family!
