IAHSS Foundation Recognizes Exceptional Achievements in Healthcare Security

IAHSS Foundation Recognizes Exceptional Achievements in Healthcare Security


Glendale Heights, IL – The International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety Foundation held their Annual Recognition Banquet at the 2016 IAHSS 48th Annual Conference & Exhibition in Charlotte, North Carolina in May. Awards were presented to outstanding healthcare security professionals and organizations for their exemplary contributions to the healthcare security industry. 

Constance Packard, IAHSS Foundation President and Executive Director of Support Services at Boston Medical Center and Boston University Medical Campus, was the host and master of ceremonies presenting the following awards: 

 

The Medal of Merit is presented to individuals who distinguish himself/herself in the performance of duty by an act of personal fortitude above and beyond the call of duty not taken at the risk of his/her own life.  The 2016 Medal of Merit was presented to Allen Young, Memorial Hermann Healthcare System, Houston TX; Pamela Sharif, Lions Gate Hospital (Paladin Security), North Vancouver BC; and Alex Frech, Dharmendra Singh, Brandon Anderson, Gaurav Gill, and Mauricio Godoy, Surrey Memorial Hospital, (Paladin Security)  Surrey BC.

 

The Medal of Distinction is presented to an individual who, through individual action or initiative, has made a significant and lasting contribution to the healthcare security, safety, and/or risk management professions.  The 2016 Medal of Distinction was presented to Thomas A.Smith, CHPA, CPP, Healthcare Security Consultants, Inc., Chapel Hill NC 

 

The Philip A. Gaffney Faculty Chair is presented to an individual in recognition of the promotion and development of education research in the maintenance and improvement of healthcare security, safety or risk management.  The 2016 Philip A. Gaffney Faculty Chair was presented to David Corbin, CHPA, CPP, Newton-Wellsley Hospital, Newton MA.

 

The Russell L. Colling Medal of Literary Achievement is named in honor of Russell L. Colling, founding President of the IAHSS and author of numerous books and articles on healthcare security. It is presented to the person who through his or her literary abilities, has made a significant contribution to the healthcare security, safety, and/or risk management professions.  The 2016 Russell L. Colling Medal of Literary Achievement was presented to Donald MacAlister, CHPA, Paladin Security, Burnaby BC.

 

The Distinguished Life Works Medal is presented to an individual who has distinguished himself/herself throughout a fulfilled professional career devoted to the furtherance of the purpose and aims of the IAHSS Foundation and the goals and objectives of IAHSS.  The 2016 Distinguished Life Works Medal was presented to Anthony N. Potter, CHPA-F.

 

The Lindberg Bell Outstanding Facility is named in memory of Lindberg Bell, a charter member and second President of the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS).  This recognition is presented to a facility which has established and administers an outstanding healthcare security and/or safety program, and in 2016 was presented to the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill NC.

 

The Chapter of Distinction is presented to an IAHSS chapter in recognition for demonstrating the greatest initiative and innovation in promoting the healthcare security and safety profession as well as the IAHSS, and it 2016 this was presented to the Boston Chapter of IAHSS and accepted by Chapter Chairperson Ashley Ditta, CHPA and Vice Chairperson, Luigi Martiniello, CHPA.

 

In addition, the 2015 IAHSS President, David LaRose, CHPA, CPP also presented the association’s annual President’s Award to Bill Navejar, Metropolitan Healthcare Services, Herndon VA.

 

Ms. Packard commented, “The 2016 IAHSS Foundation awards evening was wonderful and gave the Foundation the opportunity to honor and recognize our healthcare professionals.  Being recognized for their great bravery, dedication, and commitment to moving our industry into the future was a tremendous event which had many standing ovations!  I am so pleased and honored to be part of an Association that takes the time to nominate people and programs where we can give thanks and praise for outstanding professionalism each and every year.”
