June 30, 2012 [Glendale HEights, IL] Brand New IAHSS Initiative Provides Up-To-Date Overview
If you have recently taken on responsibilities for safety in a healthcare environment, or if that’s just one of the many hats you wear on the job, IAHSS has developed a great resource for you.
A brand new program from the International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety (IAHSS), the only organization dedicated solely to professionals managing and directing security and safety programs in healthcare institutions, is reaching out to people who are assigned safety as a responsibility, but do not necessarily consider themselves safety professionals.
IAHSS Executive Director Evelyn Meserve says, “It can be daunting to try to navigate the complex and diverse topics that are comprised in the healthcare safety field, and this program provides a way in.” Meserve explains that the idea for this introductory program came from IAHSS members, and they have written much of the program content.
According to Meserve, the program, which is available as a 280 page PDF manual on the IAHSS website (www.IAHSS.org/store), gives a helpful overview of what a healthcare safety program entails. It is meant to convey a clear idea of what it takes to start a safety program in a healthcare facility; what’s involved if you’re taking over an existing program; and what resources are available for you to call upon. Up-to-date materials assist in creating a comprehensive safety program, with topics as diverse as hazardous materials, infectious diseases and electrical safety. “The manual is filled with useful charts and regulations – it’s a fantastic resource!” Meserve enthuses. She adds that it is also a great refresher for professionals in the field.
The PDF may be purchased for $69.95 at www.IAHSS.org/store; the materials include study questions to prepare for a voluntary test on the manual to earn a Certificate of Completion. The Exam and Certificate are available online for an additional $40.
The International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) is the only organization solely dedicated to professionals involved in managing and directing security and safety programs in healthcare institutions. Training and credentialing are the hallmarks of the organization, which offers certification programs for all levels of security personnel. With over 2,000 members worldwide, IAHSS provides members with a useful network of professional peers who share their commitment to security and safety.
