Monday, February 2, 2015
February 2, 2015 [Glendale Heights, IL] - Highlighting topics from Ebola to civil unrest and from workplace violence to drug diversion, IAHSS presenters will address many issues that affect healthcare security and safety leaders today. This year’s IAHSS Annual Conference & Exhibition (AC&E) will be held at the Hyatt Regency St Louis at the Arch on May 3-6, 2015.
Nahid Bhadelia, M.D, M.A, will serve as the keynote speaker and discuss Building Sensible Health Safety Policies and Procedures to Address Threats from Emerging Pathogens. Bhadelia has worked to design emergency protocols for a locally controversial Biosafety Level 4 lab at Boston University’s National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories, which would allow BU to study high risk viruses like Ebola in a controlled environment. She has also traveled on several occasions to Sierra Leone to treat Ebola patients.
At the IAHSS AC&E, industry newcomers sit alongside seasoned healthcare security leaders who come together to learn about best practices and tools to improve security, safety and emergency management programs within healthcare facilities. The program includes educational sessions and networking opportunities that encourage attendees to share experiences, exchange ideas and engage in discussions.
Presentations and sessions throughout the conference will cover topics such as:
• Civil Unrest: Security’s Role in Preparing for Man-made Surge Events
• Cost vs Investment: How Does Your C-Suite View Security?
• Investigating Drug Diversion Cases
• Hospital Evacuations
• Should Hospitals have Armed Officers?
• Security Liability (a Mock Trial Event)
• Women in Healthcare Security
• Facility Design and the Security Role
• Managing Threats and Preventing Violence in Healthcare Settings
Every year as part of the AC&E, the International Healthcare Security & Safety Foundation (IHSSF) presents their Recognition Program, which highlights security programs and management achievements and commemorates individuals, healthcare institutions and IAHSS Chapters for overall excellence and exceptional contributions in the fields of healthcare security, safety and risk management.
