SB1299 Case Study: Written Program for Workplace Violence Prevention (WVP)

Presented by:  Kawika Feltman, CHPP, TLO, ILO

 

In continuation with our SB1299 educational series, Kawika Feltman will share how his team moved from SB1299 mandate to embracing change and creating a roadmap that addresses WVP on all fronts, including identifying key stakeholders.

Goal: Provide a safe environment for all staff, physicians, patients, visitors, and volunteers. 

Kawika give us an overview of how his team created a global WVP plan for their healthcare organization. He will review the following:

·       Creating a written program for WVP

·       Incorporating WVP into an organizations overall safety and health program

·       Meeting regulatory compliance requirements: Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines (Occupational Safety and Health Administration, 2015) & SB1299

 

Biography: Kawika Feltman, CHPP, TLO, ILO

Kawika Feltman, Security Operations Southern California Adventist Health/Jones Lang LaSalle, is a key member of our healthcare and security community. Hands down, he wins the AEIOU award for most credentials, training and expertise. He is our valued community resource who freely shares, mentors and gives to our communities. Below are a few of his many hard-earned accomplishments:

·       Certified Homeland Protection Professional (CHPP), having obtained this prestigious designation from the National Sheriffs’ Association and the National Domestic Preparedness Coalition, through the Global Center for Threat, Risk, and Vulnerability

·       Terrorism Liaison Officer (TLO) with the Joint Regional Intelligence Center

·       Infrastructure Liaison Officer (ILO) with the FBI InfraGard Program

·       Graduate of the FBI Information Sharing Initiative (ISI) in partnership with the Center for Asymmetric Warfare (CAW), Naval Post Graduate School

·       Currently serves as vice chairperson for the Greater Los Angeles International Association for Healthcare Safety and Security (IAHSS)

·       Serves as Chairperson for the American Red Cross Board - Northern Valleys

·       Serves on the Board of Directors for the Antelope Valley Disaster Relief Network (AVDRN) a faith based non – profit organization

·       Member of the Federal Executive Board (FEB) Emergency Managers Committee, International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) Utilities Committee

·       Secretary of Health and Human Services National Active Shooters Committee

·       Antelope Valley CERT Steering Committee

·       Hospital Association of Southern California (HASC) Safety and Security Committee

·       Considered a subject matter expert in Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, Explosives (CBRNE), as well as Counterterrorism

·       Serves as the Safety and Security Command Officer for the National Disaster Medical System (NDMS), DMAT C-4

·       Has the honor of receiving Presidential appointment to serve as a life time board member for the U.S. Selective Service System since 1999

·       In 2011, Recipient of the California Emergency Services Association (CESA) Silver Award
