IAHSS Certification -
Examination Process
The basic, advanced,
supervisory and health and safety certification exams
are all based on the appropriate manuals and study
guides developed and offered by IAHSS. These books are
periodically revised and using the most current edition
is essential to successfully passing the exams. Starting
with the Basic Manual, individuals may progress to each
succeeding level whenever they feel ready. Since
personal experience can vary widely among institutions,
relying on each manual for the knowledge and skills is
essential to successfully earning certification.
Each exam consists of a specific number of questions
with multiple-choice answers. A passing score of 75
percent is required to earn certification which is valid
for a period of three years. Certification renewal must
be done prior to the expiration date to remain valid.
However, an individual may choose, at any time during
those three years, to progress to the next level
beginning a new renewal timetable. Certification renewal
is only required at the highest level attained.
Exams may be taken online or in a paper format (usually proctored by an IAHSS senior member). Other options exist if no senior member is available. An Online Exam may be taken at any time through Instant Exam Access using a credit card.
Fees: $80 per person paper and $70 per person online,
Payment: A check or Purchase Order must accompany the appropriate application form(s) for exam requests when not using the credit card option online.
Individuals may re-take an examination at the fees noted above until they are successful. Sorry, there are no refunds for persons who do not pass the examination or for unused or expired exams. Please note the expiration date on the application.
Online exam takers will know immediately if they have passed the exam; certificates will be mailed within 10 business days. Those taking the paper exam are notified through the test proctor following the association’s receipt of the completed exams and will receive their certificates at the same time.
