March 3 - 5, 2010

Online:  Live and Archived over the Internet

www.EmergencyManagementSummit.com

The Fourth National Emergency Management Summit brings together the country's leading experts in disaster preparedness and response to increase knowledge on how we can best prepare for disasters (pandemic, terrorism, natural disasters, and infectious diseases), use scarce resources wisely, implement responses more effectively, and create new partnerships. The Summit features a preconference on "Emergency Management 101" for those new to the field, as well as a special preconference on "Planning the Response to an Improvised Nuclear Device (IND)."  Following the Summit, both IAEM and WADEM offer postconferences.

The following are the learning objectives for the 2010 Summit:

  • Assess our readiness for natural disasters, pandemics, and detonation of an IND.
  • Draw appropriate lessons from our response to the H1N1 pandemic.
  • Describe the key ingredients to successful management of both surge and evacuation scenarios.
  • Foster best practices through presentation of a variety of successful case studies from the field.
  • Wrestle with the difficult legal and ethical issues that arise in emergency situations.
  • Explore new tool, technologies, competencies, and modeling and evaluation skills.
