Who speaks for hospital security? In many cases, when a safety/security incident occurs on a hospital campus, it is not security who tells the story. It is local police, a hospital administrator or someone other than a health care security professional. The question is: do they really know security? Do they have all the relevant information about hospital security? Answering this survey will assist the IAHSS and you to respond with factual comparative information when incidents occur. Commission of crimes and acts of violence against hospital staff, patients and visitors is central to the jobs of those who provide safety and security. However, the availability of statistics for reporting local and comparative national and international data is not always readily available. As a result, International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety members have requested that the Association renew its commitment to providing summary data about hospital crimes. In response, IAHSS has developed a new survey that will be administered biennially. The survey includes identical questions that were asked in past surveys for the purpose of collecting longitudinal data on crimes. New questions have been added to establish baseline data on current and emerging trends in crime-related issues that challenge healthcare and security professionals. Specifically, the survey, funded by the IHSSFoundation, was developed to: · Assess trends in crimes on hospital campuses from 2004 to 2009 · Collect new information to assess current issues and concerns in safety/security · Provide information for use by members of IAHSS |
